More about the Survey

This survey was developed by members of AIM (as i am) Youth Service in Dundalk Outcomers, with the support of the Young People's Facilities and Services Fund.

Four young people worked over 8 weeks to learn some of the basics of web authoring (blogging, html code, etc) under the guidance of Ron Finnegan. They also worked to develop the questions for the survey itself, alongside the other members of the service, in association with the Local Development Group of the YPFSF.

The questions are designed to give us a clear picture of what life is like for LGBT people of all ages in the NE Region of Ireland (Cavan, Louth, Meath and Monaghan). The YPFSF is aimed primarily at young people and has a focus on the issue of drug use, and this is reflected in the survey.

We always aimed to present this survey as a means of two-way communication. While we wanted to find out as much as possible from you the respondent, we aimed to offer something back in return - hence the 'pop-up' information and links to further resources and support organisations. The video links allowed us to present a more 'human' contact with you - in our society, where lack of visibility is still a big issue for LGBT people, it's important to realise that there are lots of LGBT people out there.

We choose createsurvey.com as our survey engine because it afforded us the chance to create the bigger picture. However, without the incredible (and voluntary) help afforded us by Mark Kirkpatrick, we would not have been able to make as much of the opportunity as we have.

We would like to thank Ioana Contu for the fabulous dothesurvey logo, and Fruit Design for helping us get the site online.

This survey comes on the back of research carried out by other organisations, most notably BeLonG To, GLEN and Rainbow Support Services. We were guided by their previous work, and in some instances we used their wording of questions almost verbatim - the wording was perfect, so why change it? Links to these organisations can be found elsewhere on this site, on the 'exit' page after the survey.

Finally, thank you to the Local Development Group of the YPFSF for supporting us to connect with you.

And thank you for taking the time with us...

Note:

At the end of the survey there is a page of internet links to support organisations, as well as extra information on some of the question topics. It is recommended that you do the survey before accessing this page. However, if you need to, you can get to it here...
