What?

This survey is for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in the North East Region of Ireland.

It was designed by members of Dundalk Outcomers, and funded by the Young People's Facilities and Services Fund.

Why?

The idea behind this survey is to get a clearer picture of what life is like for LGBT people in counties Louth, Monaghan, Cavan and Meath.

The funding behind it is aimed at young people, but we also want a response from all age groups. After all, everybody was young at some stage..

  • We want to know what your experiences have been like growing up and/or living in the NE Region
  • and what services you would like to see delivered there.
  • We also want to see what challenges LGBT people face in the area, and how they overcome them.

How?

Everything on this survey will be treated with complete confidentiality.

We do not ask anyone to give us their name or contact details, so all the responses are anonymous. The results of the survey will be published before the end of 2010, but there will be nothing included that will indicate anyone's identity.

The survey includes a list of questions on your background, personal experience, challenges faced and support services used or needed. Most of the questions are simple 'tick box' ones, while a few require some more thought or comment.

Also, we want the survey to be useful for everyone so  we've tried to provide some support back to you.

Under certain questions and headings you will see links for further information on the issue, as well as small video pieces on the topic. You can tap into these boxes if and when you like - they will not take you out of the survey, but they obviously add more time to completion. A more comprehensive list of links and supports can be found at the end of the survey, after you have pressed 'exit'.

Please Note: the survey takes on average 15 minutes to complete, not counting the additional information and video boxes (which you don't have to look at). Be sure that you have the time to complete the survey in privacy. If necessary, contact us at info@outcomers.org, and we can e-mail you a word document version of the survey that you can complete in your own time.

Who?

Dundalk Outcomers is a social and befriending group for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people. We offer a drop-in service four times a week in our centre, as well as information and one-to-one support through our office. We run many Social Events such as barbecues, discos, and bus trips to Pride events or to network with other groups. We also provide a range of training and support initiatives both for and on behalf of the LGBT Community.

The Young People's Facilities and Services Fund is funded by the Irish Government under the National Development (NDP) Plan 2007 to 2013 from funds made available by the Exchequer. It was established in 1998 as part of the Government's overall strategy to tackle drug misuse. The Fund aims to assist in the development of youth facilities, including sport and recreational facilities, and services in disadvantaged areas where a significant drug problem exists or has the potential to develop.

This survey was also developed on the back of work carried out by other support agencies - particularly BeLonG To, GLEN, and Rainbow Support Services. Links for these organisations can be found at the end of the survey.
